Who a barrel sauna is for
A barrel sauna is a round, stave-built sauna that sits on cradles in your yard. It fits buyers who:
- Want a traditional (stone-heater) sauna outdoors and are willing to run a dedicated 240V circuit, or use a wood stove where offered.
- Have a level spot roughly 7 to 8 feet each way, plus clearance to assemble it.
- Are comfortable with a kit build (typically two people, about a day) or will pay for installation.
It is a poor fit if you can't get a 240V circuit to the site, need an infrared-only setup, or want a turnkey building craned into place (see the pre-built option).

Rev 260915 (hosted by SaunaLife's parent, Bathing Brands, in a September 2026 folder) lists 5 years from delivery for sauna rooms and kits bought from an authorized reseller. Rev 260220 (hosted on saunalife.com in an August 2026 folder) says two years for residential workmanship. The E8 product page says "limited lifetime warranty." We don't pick one: ask your seller for the warranty document that applies to your order, in writing.
Trade-offs: heater and floor cost extra; not a no-cut kit (the manual calls for a circular saw); freight is a separate $950 at Topture.

Dundalk LeisureCraft Canadian Timber Serenity MP (CTC2245MP)
Best for: buyers who want cedar, a covered porch with half-moon windows, and the option of a wood-burning stove.
- Capacity: seats 4 per Topture; Dundalk categorizes it as 5-person. Two-tier benches on both sides.

Solaci: 78.74" diameter × 78.74" H × 94.49" L including a 17.72" front porch; 184 cu ft interior. We haven't found a Dundalk-published drawing to settle it, so measure your site against the larger figures. Details in our Spec Snapshot.
- Heater: sold separately. Dundalk recommends 9 kW. Topture offers HUUM DROP 9 kW, Harvia KIP 8 kW, or wood-burning stoves.
- Electrical: 240V for electric packages (DROP 9 kW draws 37.5A; KIP 8 kW draws 33.3A). Dundalk makes certified-electrician hookup a condition of warranty validation.

Thermory Ignite Barrel Sauna No. 62
Best for: the largest room and view in this group.
- Capacity: 6.
- Wood: thermally modified spruce (Thermory's Ignite finish), 1.57" wall/board thickness.
- Size: 7.33' long, 7.52' outside diameter, 7.25' inside diameter; 265 cu ft; benches 6.5' × 2.08'; window 7' × 3.5'; no porch.
- Heater: 9 kW listed. Thermory's heater chart lists HUUM DROP 9, HUUM STEEL 9, HUUM CORE 9 and Homecraft Revive 9 kW as compatible with the No. 62, each on a 50A breaker. Rain jacket and Wi-Fi controller listed.
- Install: pre-cut, pre-milled staves and cradles; Thermory says no cutting is needed and it builds in under a day with helpers.
- Warranty: a Thermory "Warranty Terms & Conditions for Barrel Saunas" PDF hosted by a dealer (uploaded March 2024; file created June 2022) gives a five-year warranty for the initial buyer, including exterior rot that renders the sauna unusable. We found no room-warranty term on Thermory USA's own pages on October 11, 2026, so the manufacturer's current written warranty is unknown. Confirm with Thermory or your dealer before you buy.
Trade-offs: no published price; you request a quote or buy through a dealer. Largest volume here, so expect the 9 kW / 50A requirement.
Not a barrel: pre-built cabin option
If you'd rather skip a kit build, Sweaty Yeti builds pre-assembled sauna rooms in Spanish Fork, Utah, delivered and set on your pad. The base Sweaty Yeti Sauna is 4–6 person, 8' × 9' (48 sq ft), starting at $29,700 with delivery within 250 miles. It uses a HUUM electric heater; electrical service ranges by model from a 20A 120V circuit up to 80A 240V per the dealer listing, so get the exact figure for your configuration. Structure carries a 10-year limited warranty. It is a different class of product and price, not a barrel.
Heater and electrical basics
- Size to volume. Heaters in this group run 6 to 9 kW. Thermory's chart, for example, rates the HUUM DROP 6 for 177–318 cu ft and the DROP 9 for 283–460 cu ft. Glass adds effective volume, so large windows push you up a size. See our heater sizing guide.
- Plan for 240V. Every electric heater here is a hardwired 240V appliance. Listed requirements run from 30A (6 kW) to 50A (9 kW). Lighting is a separate 110–120V feed on most models.
- Hire a licensed electrician. Redwood, Almost Heaven, SaunaLife and Dundalk all call for one, and Dundalk ties warranty validation to it. Redwood suggests getting at least two quotes.
- Wood-burning is offered for the SaunaLife E8 (Harvia M3 kit) and the Dundalk Serenity MP, and on select large-diameter Almost Heaven barrels. It needs a chimney route and clearances instead of a circuit. Check local burn rules.

Site prep, delivery and install
Foundation
- Recommended bases from these manufacturers: concrete pad or footings under each cradle, a solid or reinforced deck, compacted gravel, or a level stone/paver patio (Redwood); concrete pad or wood deck, level with a slight slope to the back for drainage (Dundalk).
- Level matters: it keeps the door aligned, floor drains working, and band tension even (SaunaLife). The base must carry the full sauna weight (900–1,345 lb here) plus occupants.
- Barrels bear on two or three cradles, so the load is concentrated along those lines. Make sure the site drains; wood shouldn't sit in water.
Delivery
- Redwood, SaunaLife and Dundalk ship by LTL freight, curbside by appointment, and Almost Heaven ships by flatbed. Drivers don't move it into your yard. (Ask Thermory or its dealer how the No. 62 ships.)
- Crate sizes and weights vary: Redwood 85" × 45½" × 28½"; SaunaLife 88" × 44" × 43", 1,345 lb; Dundalk 96" × 45" × 34", 1,278 lb with no liftgate. Almost Heaven ships by flatbed.
- Measure gates and side passages, and line up helpers or equipment before the truck is booked. Photograph any damage before signing.
Assembly
- Most are pitched as two-person, roughly one-day builds. Tools range from a drill, mallet and level (Redwood) to a circular saw (SaunaLife) or jigsaw and 2" hole saw (Dundalk).
- Bands are tensioned during assembly and re-checked after the first weeks as the wood settles (Dundalk).
- Check permits and HOA rules before you order.

FAQ
Can a barrel sauna run on a regular 120V outlet?
Not the electric models here. Their heaters are hardwired 240V appliances on 30–50A circuits. The 110–120V supply is for lighting only.
What size heater do I need?
Follow the sauna maker's recommendation: 6–8 kW for the SaunaLife E8, 9 kW for the Dundalk Serenity MP and Thermory No. 62, 6 or 8 kW for the Almost Heaven Huntington. Large glass areas increase the load.
Can I put a barrel sauna on grass or dirt?
Almost Heaven says solid, flat ground is acceptable if concrete, pavers or decking aren't available, but every maker here prefers a firm, level, well-drained base.
Do barrel saunas come with a floor?
It varies. The Dundalk Serenity MP includes a removable flat floor; Redwood and SaunaLife sell flat floors separately.
Cedar, hemlock or thermally modified wood?
Almost Heaven and Dundalk use cedar; Redwood uses heat-treated hemlock; SaunaLife and Thermory use thermally modified spruce. Thermal modification uses heat and steam, no chemicals, to improve dimensional stability and decay resistance. Care differs: Almost Heaven recommends exterior stain, while Redwood says its hemlock needs none structurally and SaunaLife recommends an annual exterior wood preservative.
How long does assembly take?
Manufacturers pitch about a day with two people. Plan extra time for the foundation, roof kit and electrician visit.
Do I need a permit?
Possibly. Requirements vary by town and HOA, and the electrical work usually needs a permit. Check before you order.
